Do I have to use the step-by-step chat, or can I fill in the form myself?
The step-by-step guided form is optional. You can switch to the regular form at any point and type your answers directly. Both send the same application to your town.
During the beta, most towns do not take applications through the Statewide New Jersey Portal yet. See what happens after you submit.

No. The guided form asks your town's questions in order. It isn't an open chat. You can go back and change any answer from the side panel.
Each town has its own rules, so your address tells the Statewide New Jersey Portal which town's form and fees apply. Type your street address and pick it from the list. If it isn't found, try the address as it appears on your tax bill, or contact your town.
Type what you want to do in your own words, such as "fence" or "dog license", then give your address. Each form opens with a short summary from your town. If you're unsure, contact your town.
The Statewide New Jersey Portal stops at each missing answer. On the review page, a banner counts any answers that are still missing, and Jump to First Error takes you to the first one.
Yes. Drafts are saved to your account automatically, so you can stop and come back from any device.
You can delete a draft you haven't submitted. Once an application is submitted, you can't withdraw it from the Statewide New Jersey Portal. Contact your town to withdraw it.
No. Each application goes to one town. If you need the same thing from several towns, file one in each.
You sign on the review page, at the end of the application on the Statewide New Jersey Portal. Read the certification, and check its box if there is one. Then type your full name in the signature box. Use the name of the applicant on the application. If the name does not match, the page tells you which name to use. Then press the submit button at the bottom of the page.
For a question about your application, a fee or a rule, contact your town. For help with the portal itself, email support@govpilot.com.
